We have moved! Visit us at our new forever home at 3501 E 71st Street, Loveland, CO 80538

All types of cats come through our doors at Larimer Humane Society. Most of these cats will make great indoor companions, but a few just wouldn’t be suited for a life of leisure. That is why these cats are looking for full-time employment.

Cats eligible for this program come from three major categories:

  1. Cats with non-medical litter box issues who have spent time outdoors
  2. Stray cats who may be a little too independent to live in a home
  3. Cats who are shy/fearful of people and prefer the company of other cats or animals

All cats will be fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, FELV/FIV negative and microchipped. We ask adopters to provide nutritious food, fresh water, shelter and future veterinary care.

What to Expect:

After adoption, we recommend placing these cats in a secure room for two to three weeks so they can acclimate to their new surroundings. Cats can be kept in an extra-large wire dog crate to help with this process. Multiple vertical hiding spaces should be provided, as well. During the acclimation period, please provide a litter box (changed daily) and the usual food and water.

Prior to having free reign of their new areas, more hiding spaces should be added. Hiding spaces such as cat carriers, cardboard boxes and paper bags will make the cats more comfortable in their new home.

During the acclimation period, bring food and water around the same time each day. This will help them become acclimated to their new human companion and they will start to look forward to your presence.

When given free reign, make sure they can still access the first room. This is where they are comfortable and it provides security for them as they establish their home base.

Interaction with these cats should always be initiated by the cats. Having anyone different approach could frighten them, and make the process of acclimating to people more difficult and time consuming. These cats tend to prefer the company of other cats over their humans, so getting a buddy for your working cat may make the acclimation process less stressful.

Please check our website and shelter regularly, as these cats will be made available for adoption periodically.
